MSA200 Intermediate Modern Standard Arabic
Prerequisites
- MSA100, or
- proof of completion of equivalent level, and/or
- through placement test
Course Description
This course continues on building up the student’s listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. It corresponds roughly to the ACTFL intermediate level. These skills are reinforced throughout all levels through interaction activities drawn from every day real life situations.
Arabic is the only language used in class to ensure complete immersion.
Course Objectives
On completion of this course the students will be able to:
- learn about and explore the Moroccan ( and Arab) culture, language, customs, and values.
- speak about themselves, their lives, an their environement and start and sustain conversations on daily life topics
- read texts on familiar topics and understand the main ideas without using the dictionary,
- paraphrase to make themselves understood,
- to write paragraphs on familiar topics and short messages about daily life,
- distinguish formal and spoken Arabic and the situations where each is used,
- understand and form the basic sentence structure types of Arabic,
- guess with a certain degree of confidence the meaning of new words from context,
- be cognizant about aspects of Arab everyday life, culture and society.

- the textbook used is Al Kitab Part 1 (Units 9-20) and Al Kitab Part2 (Unit 1),
- other materials prepared by IIHEM Arabic faculty.
