Course Description

This course is an introduction to social, religious, cultural and political aspects of Moroccan society with a major focus on the social transformations in Morocco over the last five decades.

The course analyses male/female, secular/religious and liberal/conservative dynamics in Morocco from the postcolonial construction until now and their impact through politics, human rights and social reforms.

This course allows students to acquire a better understanding of academic and political debate in Morocco over social, religious, and political issues.

Course Objectives

On completion of this course the students will be able to:

  • understand the constraints that shape the Moroccan society,
  • identify the various aspects of transformation of Moroccan society since independence,
  • analyze modernity challenges.
